PWIM or Picture Word Induction Model is based on having kids talk about images. It is a great way to generate vocabulary around topics that engage the learners. If you are using the AVID program you will know about Cornell Notes. Cornell provides a number of useful and engaging note taking models for students aged 10 and up. The Cornell model stresses individual reflection more than rote learning. It is a strategy I wish I’d learned before floundering through high school.
